SMALL BUSINESS SATURDAY: New York State Senate Majority Leader Stewart-Cousins recognizes small businesses in Yonkers

 


YONKERS, NEW YORK: #AndreaStewartCousins presented #NewYork State Senate #EmpireBusinessAward to Hollywood Florist in recognition of Small Business Saturday.

#HollywoodFlorist, located at 414 South Broadway in Yonkers, has been in business for more than 100 years.
A family-run establishment, Chris and #ArtemisGrammatos purchased the business in 1984.
Now it is ran by their sons, Elton and #PeterGrammatos, who thanked Sen. Andrea Stewart-Cousins for the Empire Business Award.
“We’ve been here for 100 years because of our customers and we’re so appreciative of them. Our customers are our number one priority,” said #PeterGrammatos, manager of Hollywood Florist.

Burglar Sentenced to Nine Years for Failing to Appear in Court **Goshen, NY** - Oscar Castillo, a Yonkers resident, was sentenced to nine years in prison on Monday following his guilty plea to second-degree burglary in Orange County Court last year. After pleading guilty in February 2023, Castillo did not return for sentencing, leading to a warrant for his arrest. In court documents, it was revealed that Castillo was involved in a burglary on November 18, 2017, at a house on Cardinal Drive in Washingtonville. Two men broke into the house, confronted by the homeowner, who reported that they were masked, armed with a shotgun, and impersonated FBI agents. A physical altercation ensued, resulting in the homeowner's injury. Washingtonville Police, with the New York State Police Forensic Investigation Center, conducted a crime scene analysis where DNA evidence matched Castillo. Castillo was apprehended on July 2, 2021, in Westchester County, with the help of New York State Parole. District Attorney David M. Hoovler expressed gratitude to the Washingtonville Police and other involved agencies for their collaborative efforts. COLORADO: A Republican Mayor Rips Trump's "Grossly Exaggerated" Claims


NEWSWEEK: #MikeCoffman, the mayor of #Aurora, #Colorado, released a statement after former President Donald Trump's rally in the city, calling remarks about Venezuelan gang activity in his city "grossly exaggerated", saying they "have unfairly hurt the city's identity and sense of safety." FROM THE ARTICLE: "The former president held a rally in the city, located just east of Denver, on Friday, during which he repeated his claims that Aurora has been "invaded and conquered" by migrants. He also accused Vice President Kamala Harris of allowing buildings in the city to be "infested" by gang members, and violent migrants "animals" and "barbaric thugs." YONKERS POLICE DEPARTMENT: Returns With The "Half the Wheels, All the Laws" Enforcement Operation


In about 3 hours, the #YonkersPoliceDepartment impounded almost 30 mopeds, scooters, and motorcycles.

These vehicles had everything from registration violations to equipment violations, and many were being operated recklessly.

The #YonkersPD issued over 50 summonses during that time.

The day ended with the arrest of #JacobNavarroSalguero (26) of the #Bronx for operating a black Yamaha motorcycle recklessly, speeding dangerously through rush hour traffic with no license plate.

The #YonkersPolice placed him under arrest, issuing him 7 summonses and charging him with Reckless Endangerment, Reckless Driving, and Aggravated Unlicensed Operation for having 19 active suspensions on his license.

Since May, the #YPD taken almost 200 illegal mopeds, motorcycles, scooters, and recreational vehicles off the roads

The unlawful operation of recreational vehicles in #Yonkers continues to be one of the top complaints from residents.
