MOUNT VERNON, NY - Nearly two decades ago, a would-be developer appeared on the scene in Yonkers, #JosephSpiezio was hoping to make his mark as the city sought to reshape its downtown and waterfront.
The New Rochelle resident #JosephSpiezio, who never took the bar exam after getting a law degree, bought a shopping center, then a building across from City Hall, and became a favored developer of the mayor.
The alliance was promising, with old warehouses being turned into lofts and a ballpark project on the table.
Things soon soured in Yonkers though, a bid for New Rochelle mayor ended before it really got going and #JosephSpiezio III left a trail of lawsuits as he mostly faded into the background.
#JoeSpiezio has resurfaced in recent years, branching out into the garbage industry and now playing a key role in the administration of Mount Vernon Mayor Richard Thomas.
