PRESS RELEASE *** Yonkers Police Department arrest three for mailbox fishing, tampering
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE 2018-05-11 @ 0930 #2018-0030
YONKERS: On Wednesday, May 9th, 2018, the Yonkers Police Department issued a Public Safety Alert regarding several incidents of mail theft from mailboxes along Yonkers Avenue.
Over the past several months, police in the region have received multiple complaints regarding similar incidents. Yonkers Police investigators, working with the United States Postal Inspection Service and law enforcement partners, deployed additional enforcement resources in an effort to apprehend the perpetrators of these crimes.
Yesterday, May 10th, 2018, at approximately 4 AM in the area of 490 South Broadway, undercover Yonkers Police officers were conducting a surveillance and observed three males loitering adjacent to a USPS mailbox and relay mailbox.
Officers observed the males tampering with both mailboxes, attempting to pry open the doors and engaging in “fishing” behavior – an attempt to pull mail out through the deposit slot.
The three males were then placed into custody and subsequent investigation found them to be in possession of stolen and unauthorized checks, in addition to items commonly used to “fish” mail.
The males were arrested and subsequently charged on one count each of Criminal Possession of Stolen Property 3’, a Class D Penal Law Felony, and one count each of Criminal Mischief 3’, a Class E Penal Law Felony.
Yonkers Police and Postal Inspectors are working together to enhance the investigation and determine if these defendants are responsible for prior incidents of mail theft.
Police Commissioner #CharlesGardner stated, “Mail theft is a serious crime because of the potential for financial loss, identity theft, and the inherent privacy violations. To those persons who would engage in these criminal acts I say this – the Yonkers Police and Postal Inspectors are committed to finding you, arresting you, and delivering you into the Criminal Justice System where you will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. These arrests serve as example of our dedicated efforts.”
Inspector in Charge #PhilipBartlett stated, “Recently, it appears to be the unfathomable belief you can steal from the US Mail and get away with it. Let me be clear, Postal Inspectors and their law enforcement partners will spare no resource to find you and bring you to justice, as these arrests exemplify. No one is above the law on our watch.”
The defendants were arraigned in Yonkers Criminal Court. The case is being prosecuted by the office of the Westchester County District Attorney. The defendants are identified as follows:
- Edgardo Rodriguez – age 25 – 1774 Clay Avenue, Bronx NY
- Max Enrique Anparo – age 26 – 1810 Palisade Place, Bronx NY
- Luis Felipe Cruz-Valerio – age 21 – 751 East 187th Street, Bronx NY
Anyone with information regarding mail theft or mailbox tampering is encouraged to contact the Yonkers Police Detective Division at (914) 377-7730 and or the USPS at (800) 275-8777 – all calls will remain confidential.
100% anonymous tips can be sent by texting the key word YPD plus the tip to 847411.
Anonymous tips can also be sent to us directly through the Yonkers PD Tips app which can be downloaded for free to any Apple or Android device.
NOTE: Booking charges are merely accusations and the defendant(s) are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.

JERUSALEM POST: #Yonkers Man posts video ridiculing Hasidic children over haircuts
A Yonkers man posted video to Facebook in which he mercilessly ridicules a little Hasidic boy over his traditional haircut — and it took two days before the social-media giant finally yanked it down.
Facebook user “Quai James” put up the video on Facebook and Snapchat on Saturday morning with the caption “Had to really let my son know how i felt about the whole Jewish Haircut… Pray for the lil homie.”
The video, which went viral, shows the wide-eyed toddler standing on a sidewalk with a shaved head and long sidelocks, in the Hasidic religious tradition.
“I’d be crying if I looked like that, too, bro,” the man tells the boy, whose eyes start to fill with tears.
“That’s f–ked up what they be doing to you.”
The child, wearing a long sleeve shirt with stars and black bow, continues looking confused and sad as he stands silently while the man verbally abuses him.
“You probably had the full wash and set — they should be fired if they ain’t cut your sh-t,” the man says. “F–k it, though, bro, it’s your life.”
Seconds earlier, the man had laughed as a slightly older Hasidic boy walked past him.
The posting was gone from Snapchat after 24 hours. Someone shared it on Twitter, and it was viewed more than 1 million times — and liked more than 100,000 times — before the social-media site finally yanked it down,
But the video on Facebook, which had been shared thousands of times, remained on the site until late Monday morning, even though throngs of watchers previously demanded that it be yanked down.
Facebook initially said it wouldn’t take down the post because it “doesn’t go against one of our specific community standards.”
The site added that users should simply block the man who posted it — so they won’t have to see any more “offensive content” from him.
Later the post was finally taken down by Facebook around 10:30 a.m., and a company rep said that the video violates our bullying policies, and we took it down upon investigating.

YONKERS - An overnight fire ripped through a Yonkers apartment, leaving 20 families homeless.
About 70 firefighters responded to the fire on Nepperhan Avenue that started in the top floor and caused the roof to collapse.
Fire officials say it took about six or seven hours to get the fire under control. They were still putting out hot spots late Saturday morning.
They say it was harder to extinguish the fire because of the roof collapse.
"It's harder to get the water into the pockets where the actual fire is because that area is being protected by the roofing material that fell on it," said Yonkers Deputy Fire Chief #JosephDelasho.....

MAJORITY LEADER MICHAEL SABATINO WILL NOT SEEK ASSEMBLY SEAT
MICHAEL SABATINO: I want to thank all of those constituents, party leaders and district leaders who have encouraged me to run for the State Assembly seat recently vacated by the election of Senator Shelley Mayer.
Your early and continued support is deeply appreciated. After much deliberation with my family and my team, I have decided to pass on this opportunity.
I was elected by my constituents to work on their behalf. I am currently the Budget Chair and the Majority Leader of the City Council.
It is no secret that this year’s budget is very challenging and will require the City to make some very difficult decisions to ensure our residents continue to receive high quality services.
I believe that all of my energy must be focused on passing a responsible budget by June and not on laying the necessary campaign groundwork to begin petitioning at the beginning of June.
Thus, I think it best that I complete my term and then make a decision about future opportunities for elected office or public service.

YONKERS REVIEW: Ammir Rabadi MD
Yesterday, I Took The Advice Of Many People In Yonkers And Went To Ask #AmmirRabadi If He Would Be The Family Doctor For Myself And My Wife.
When I spoke to him, Doctor Rabadi, told me that he tries to treat an undeserved community and that is why he accepts all insurances and would welcome the two us to his practice.
This was the first time I went to a waiting room that was so friendly, people were laughing and talking about sports and family members with the front desk staff.
When I went into get my exam it was Doctor Rabadi and two other doctors, one of which will be the doctor primarily taking care of my wife and I.
The medical history that was taken, was more in depth than I had ever had given, and as the exam continued Doctor Rabadi presented what were individually tailored preventive medicine programs for my wife and I.
Doctor Rabadi even suggested and gave samples of natural supplements that my wife should use instead of some prescriptions, because he said that over time these prescriptions could harm her liver.
Doctor Rabadi and the other doctors talked about simple, easy adjustments that my wife and I can make that won’t dramatically impact our lifestyle - but will give you us tools you need to maximize our future health.
I don't want to exaggerate, but Doctor Rabadi's office seemed like a next-generation medical facility, he was able to connect to St. John's hospital and see every test we had ever had.
He called up an MRI that I had taken and showed and discussed the images with me.
I was a bit amazed at this, because neurologist that had originally ordered the MRI had never even shown me these images.
He called up these tests with just the click of a mouse and explained things better than any specialist had to before.
Doctor Rabadi's office even had its own lab for all of the tests that my wife and I needed that day.
My wife and I also left with the referrals that we needed and I left kind of excited about getting healthier.
The good doctor even followed up with a kind message welcoming us to his office.
Personally, I think that you will find that one initial exam with Doctor Rabadi and his team will provide you more insight into your health and future health than all your previous annual exams combined.
Doctor Rabadi's is hidden gem in the city of Yonkers.
The funny thing is that, for the past two years, my wife has going to church every day right across the street from Doctor Rabadi's office.
I just wished we had learned about his #MedicalSpa sooner.
