MEET SHELLEY MAYER: "Westchester County Roundup" Guest Host And Debbie Friedman Interviews NYS Assembly Woman Shelley Mayer Who Is Running For Westchester County Executive George Latimer's vacant Senate seat.

In January Shelley Mayer received the Democratic nomination over a pool of candidates, including Bedford Supervisor #ChrisBurdick; former Bernie Sanders organizer and White Plains resident Katherine Brezler; as well as #MarkJaffe, of West Harrison.

Yonkers Mayor #MikeSpano announced his running as well, but dropped out of the race a week before the nominating process.

Westchester County Republicans announced that they selected former Rye councilwoman Julie Powers Killian to run against Shelley Mayer, and Gov. Andrew Cuomo called a special election for April 24th.

#SarmadKhojasteh, a commercial litigation attorney from the town of Bedford had sought the republican nod, but dropped out before the nominating process.

#DanSchorr, a former prosecutor in Westchester and New York City and previous #Yonkers inspector lost to #JulieKillian in the mini Westchester GOP convention.

#JuliePowersKillian ran for the seat in 2016 against Democrat #GeorgeLatimer, who resigned and left the Senate seat vacant in January to become the new Westchester County executive.

George Latimer beat incumbent Republican #RobAstorino in a 2017 election some viewed as a referendum on President President #DonaldTrump and current republican policies.

Shelley Mayer, a Yonkers assemblywoman since 2012, has been endorsed by Gov #AndrewCuomo, Lieutenant Governor #KathyHochul and New York State Professional Fire Fighters Association, #NYSPFFA, as well as, Westchester County Executive George Latimer

Senate Democratic leader #AndreaStewartCousins has said Shelley Mayer will be "an invaluable" member of the Senate Democratic Conference
Fighting For Children PAC, which is run by #GaryGreenberg, who was sexually abused as a kid, said his committee will be backing Assemblywoman Shelley Mayer

The 37th Senatorial District encompasses the cities of #Yonkers, #WhitePlains, #NewRochelle and #Rye, and the towns of #Eastchester, #Harrison, #MamaronecRye, #Bedford and #NorthCastle, as well as, the villages of #PortChester and #RyeBrook.

The 37th District has been held by a Democrat for three decades and #Democrats outnumber #Republicans by 30,000 voters.

Still, it has been a target of the #GOP in expensive campaign battles in recent years.

Republicans hold a one-vote majority in the New York State Senate with two seats open

State legislators serve two-year terms at an annual base salary of $79,500. Whoever wins the special election will face re-election in November.
