#SarmadKhojasteh, a commercial litigation attorney from the town of Bedford had sought the republican nod, but dropped out before the nominating process.
#DanSchorr, a former prosecutor in Westchester and New York City and previous #Yonkers inspector lost to #JulieKillian in the mini Westchester GOP convention.
#JuliePowersKillian ran for the seat in 2016 against Democrat #GeorgeLatimer, who resigned and left the Senate seat vacant in January to become the new Westchester County executive.
George Latimer beat incumbent Republican #RobAstorino in a 2017 election some viewed as a referendum on President President #DonaldTrump and current republican policies.
Shelley Mayer, a Yonkers assemblywoman since 2012, has been endorsed by Gov #AndrewCuomo, Lieutenant Governor #KathyHochul and New York State Professional Fire Fighters Association, #NYSPFFA, as well as, Westchester County Executive George Latimer
Senate Democratic leader #AndreaStewartCousins has said Shelley Mayer will be "an invaluable" member of the Senate Democratic Conference
Fighting For Children PAC, which is run by #GaryGreenberg, who was sexually abused as a kid, said his committee will be backing Assemblywoman Shelley Mayer
The 37th Senatorial District encompasses the cities of #Yonkers, #WhitePlains, #NewRochelle and #Rye, and the towns of #Eastchester, #Harrison, #MamaronecRye, #Bedford and #NorthCastle, as well as, the villages of #PortChester and #RyeBrook.
The 37th District has been held by a Democrat for three decades and #Democrats outnumber #Republicans by 30,000 voters.
Still, it has been a target of the #GOP in expensive campaign battles in recent years.
Republicans hold a one-vote majority in the New York State Senate with two seats open
State legislators serve two-year terms at an annual base salary of $79,500. Whoever wins the special election will face re-election in November.
