UNION LEADER: John Flynn was born and raised in the City of Yonkers and he has been a Yonkers Firefighter for over 30 years, progressing through the ranks to Lieutenant, Captain, Assistant Chief and Deputy Chief.

FIREFIGHTER: #JohnFlynn served for two years as Chief of Personnel and seven years as Chief of Fire Prevention and Investigation.

YONKERS: John Flynn is currently an Assistant Chief and serves as President of the Yonkers Uniformed Fire Officers Association.

John Flynn has also served as an adjunct instructor with the New York State Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Services.

John Flynn holds an Associates degree in Fire Protection Technology, a Bachelor’s in Emergency and Disaster Management (summa cum laude), and a Masters in Homeland Security and Defense from the Naval Postgraduate School, where he graduated with Distinction and was awarded the Straub Award for Academic Achievement and Leadership.

Assistant Chief John Flynn is also a graduate of the Homeland Security Executive Leader’s Program at the Naval Postgraduate School.

John Flynn has presented at the National Fire Protection Association annual conference and has authored several articles for international fire and emergency management journals.

Chief John Flynn has worked as a consultant to both government and private sector organizations in curriculum development and in other advisory capacities for fire service, emergency management and homeland security related projects.

Chief John Flynn holds the prestigious designation Chief Fire Officer from the Center for Public Safety Excellence, and is in the final stages of application for the Certified Emergency Manager designation from the International Association of Emergency Managers.

John Flynn serves on the board of directors for the Saint Peter’s Head Start Program, on the National Fire Protection Association committee: Standard for incident management professional qualifications,

John Flynn was recently appointed by County Executive George Latimer to the Westchester County Fire Advisory Board. 

John Flynn is the recipient of seven formal commendations from the Yonkers Fire Department for valor and lifesaving.
