SURINAME: A devastating act of violence has plunged a small country into grief, as nine individuals, including five children, were brutally stabbed to death on the outskirts of the Surinamese capital, Paramaribo. 

The horrific attack also left an adult and a child with serious injuries, both now fighting for their lives in hospital. 

Police, responding to an urgent call Saturday night, apprehended a male suspect at the scene after he was shot in the leg. 

He is currently hospitalized under police guard, receiving treatment for his injuries.
