Yonkers, N.Y.—Mayor Phil Amicone today announced that AARP Tax-Aide volunteers, trained and certified by the IRS, will be offering free income tax assistance to all Yonkers middle- and low-income taxpayers, with special attention to those ages 60 and older, at three Yonkers locations from February 1 to April 17.
This free nationwide program, TAX-AIDE, is administered through the American Association of Retired Persons (AARP) Foundation in cooperation with the Internal Revenue Service and is being offered through the Yonkers Office for the Aging, the Department of Parks and Recreation and the Grinton Will Library.
“This valuable service will provide assistance to all those who need help filling out their federal or New York State income tax returns,” said Mayor Amicone. “This represents a true collaborative effort on the part of a variety of organizations – AARP, The Yonkers Office for the Aging, Department of Parks Recreation and Conservation and the Grinton Will Library.”
Locations and schedules are as follows:
Bronx River Road Community Center, 680 Bronx River Road, Yonkers 10704 - Thursdays 9:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.
St. John's Riverside Park Care Pavilion, Office for the Aging Nutrition Site, 2 Park Avenue, Yonkers 10703 - Mondays 10 a.m. - 12 Noon and 1 to 3 p.m.
Grinton Will Library, 1500 Central Park Avenue, Yonkers 10710 - Tuesdays & Wednesdays 9:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m.
Electronic filing service is offered at both the St. John's Riverside Park Care Pavilion and the Will Library locations.
Taxpayers must bring a copy of their 2004 tax return, all 2005 W-2's, 1099's, Social Security Benefits Statements, a photo ID as well as copies of their Social Security card or Individual Tax Identification card.
