Aid and Donation Drive in Yonkers for the People of Puerto Rico and How One May Learn the Whereabouts of Family and Friends

YONKERS, NY — October 5, 2017 — Under the auspices of The Puerto Rican Cultural Foundation President José Roman, with the collaboration of the Dominican Cultural Association, both Yonkers based, are accepting donations to provide immediate relief to the victims of Hurricane Maria that devastated Puerto Rico. The donation drive for the benefit of the islanders who have undergone the devastation caused by Hurricane Maria will hold a Saturday, October 14th and Sunday, October 15th donation drive from 10:00am until 6:00pm at O’Boyle Park, located at Hawthorne Avenue, Yonkers, NY. Donations needed, accepted, and welcomed are: bottled water, baby formula, batteries, first-aid supplies, feminine hygiene products, diapers, among every conceivable non-perishable items, as well as diabetes drugs, and other unopened and securely sealed medically labeled items.
Public Facebook group Puerto Rico Maria Updates is attempting to gather as much information as possible for those who are outside and on the island.

Calling Puerto Rico directly makes it extremely difficult for people on the island to communicate with their friends and family. In an effort to facilitate communication, the Puerto Rico Federal Affairs Administration in Washington, D.C., is recommending that people call their hotline at 202-778-0710. The contact number in Puerto Rico to assist in locating people, requires patience as cell service is not fully operational. The telephone number in San Juan, Puerto Rico is 787-777-0940. When calling please recognize that you must have the full name(s) of the people you are inquiring about, their last known address, and city they resided, the landline and cell telephone number they can be reached when service is restored and any other pertinent information that may be known to locate them.
