HELP WANTED IN YONKERS: Housing Specialist - Westhab, Inc - Yonkers, NY

SUMMARY : The Housing Specialist will assist individuals and families with finding affordable housing by providing housing search and services to promote participants self-sufficiency, integration into the community, and permanency in housing.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Conduct clients' housing intake to identify possible housing choices.

• Maintain accurate daily case notes, maintain log records, weekly and monthly outcomes reports, database of available housing. Responsible for maintaining a complete working file providing activity documentation.

• Works towards identifying new housing opportunities for clients through ongoing networks.

• Meets monthly apartments finding goals and works toward achieving the monthly placement target numbers. Ability to negotiate apartments rent to meet the FMR

• Conduct housing informational workshops and works in conjunction with case managers to identify potential clients looking for housing. Attends weekly cross departments meetings and others as required.

• Ensures landlords and management companies are in compliance with established housing laws and building codes. Responsible for obtaining and reviewing lease agreements to ensure housing laws compliance. Knowledge of tenant and landlords rights.

• Provide mediation and advocacy among existing or newly identified landlords or property management.

• Ability to serve as a mediator to resolve tenant and landlords crises or conflicts.

• Promotes educated and accurate information to realtors, landlords and property management entities. Apply knowledge of residential lease contracts, conduct HQS Inspections, research and compares rental market prices. Provides proactive follow up with landlords, property management, clients, shelter and program staff.

• Responsible for obtaining all of initial or renewal leases along with require documentation. Ensures that all of the HUD Documentation is submitted with leases.

• Create and maintain ongoing communication, both verbal and written, between all parties involved (shelters, DSS Housing Department, program case managers, clients, landlords and collaborating agencies, etc.)

• Responsible for notifying case manager of apartment readiness. Responsible for scheduling a move in date with landlord, program case manager, client and shelter staff

• Requires the completion of various programmatic time sheets and activity log along with maintaining working calendar updated

• Ability to work in collaboration with other personnel, service providers and professionals to meet target goals.

• Assume other responsibilities as assigned

EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION AND SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

An Associates or Bachelor Degree in Human Services, Public Administration, Marketing/Sales, Real Estate or two years of experience in related fields with a minimum of an Associate Degree.

Must have the ability to travel within the Westchester County, have own transportation and valid driver's license. Must be able to work independently in a fast pace environment and be able to prioritize based on what is needed.

Requires leasing negotiation, marketing skills and excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Must have strong organizational skill, ability to meet a demanding workload and be sensitive to cultural and socioeconomic needs of the population served.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office Word, Excel, Google Docs and Calendar.
