VIDEO: Jim Killoran has lead Habitat for Humanity of Westchester for 30 years

WATCH IT: Jim Killoran is addressing vacant "zombie" homes and crumbling parks in communities in Westchester County.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY: Habitat for Humanity Of Westchester allows community volunteers to rehab houses, paint at a local park or create a community garden. 

Jim Killoran's favorite slogan is "N.M.U." or "No More Ugly."

In Yonkers Habitat for Humanity has rehabbed nine homes on Ashburton Avenue, seven houses on Willow Street and Warbuton Avenue, six homes behind Pearls Hawthorne School on Purser Place.

Jim Killoran now plans are in place to fix vacant homes on Moquette Row in #Yonkers.

Jim Killoran, through Habitat buys the vacant properties and builds homes, then makes arrangements for the accepted applicants to buy them.

Buying requirements for a Wechester home include a minimal down payment, a minimum number of volunteer hours and the ability to pay affordable rates such as closing costs and mortgage.

Jim Killoran has about 15,000 who volunteer each year with his group and give back to the community.

As one of 1,000 active Habitat branches, Jim Killoran believes Westchester can become a leader in rebuilding communities.

Jim Killoran is originally from Worchester, MA and planned to be a priest.

"I got married, and that was that," Jim Killoran said.

So he set his sights on helping others.

Prior to Habitat, he worked with the #homeless and helped with mental health issues in Lower East Side of Manhattan, Harlem and Newark, NJ

Jim Killoran calls for an aggressive neighborhood transitions in Westchester Cities and towns.

"No home in Westchester County should be empty," Jim Killoran said. "No home in Westerchester County should be foreclosed on.

"We need to be more aggressive in this county, to help people get back in their homes," Jim Killoran said.

James Killoran is a member of the Yonkers Charter School of Excellence and treasurer of the board.

He is also a member of the Mount Vernon Amani Charter School Board.

Jim Killoran is a New Rochelle, NY, resident has been with Habitat for Humanity of Westchester since 1986

Habitat's also has a "ReStore" store located in New Rochelle
