....A state assemblywoman planning to run for a key vacant state Senate seat in #WestchesterCounty is being accused by political foes of hypocrisy when it comes to sexual harassment.
Shelley Mayer (D-Yonkers) has been outspoken on the issue. But foes note that in 2012 she publicly came to the support of then-Assembly Speaker #SheldonSilver when he was under fire for his handling of sexual harassment incidents involving then- powerful Brooklyn Assemblyman Vito Lopez.
“I am a total supporter of the speaker as a leader,” Shelley Mayer said at the time.
“As someone who lived through some very difficult times in the Senate, I know how difficult leadership can be. I think he has exhibited great leadership.”
A Republican political foe on Friday called her “a hypocrite and a fraud who only stands up for women when it’s politically convenient."
"She shockingly defended Shelly Silver's disgusting use of taxpayer hush money to silence the victims of serial sexual predator Vito Lopez," the GOPer said.
"Shelley Mayer isn't an advocate for women in need. She's an enabler who couldn't sweep the sexual harassment in Albany under the rug fast enough."....
