Single Payer Health Care
What: On Tuesday, October 10 – Assemblywoman Galef will hold a Pro-and-Con forum on Single Payer Health Care with panelists Assemblymember Richard Gottfried, Bill Hammond, Dr. Thomas Lee, and Dr. Betsy Rosenthal.
Why: Health care- and who pays for it- has become one of the most discussed topics in America. As Congress debates ways to improve and replace the Affordable Care Act, other discussions happen in our state government over whether a government-run system will cure New York’s healthcare woes. Assemblyman Richard Gottfried and Senator Gustavo Rivera have created a bill, A.4738/S.4840, to establish a uniform single payer system for every resident.
Will the creation of a single payer healthcare system will drastic savings in the long run by getting rid of insurance related bureaucracies, negotiating deep discounts on drug prices and providing affordable healthcare to all? These and other questions which will be discussed on October 10th by expert panelists.
