The American Irish Historical Society (AIHS) are delighted to welcome the phenomenal duo of David Power and Willie Kelly to play music from their album “Apples in Winter” on Friday, April 20, 2018, at 6.30pm.
David Power is one of Ireland’s foremost musicians on the uilleann pipes. Willie Kelly, a fiddle player, was born in the Bronx to a musical family from Ireland and is an extremely well-respected player and teacher.
Together, they are embarking on a selective tour beginning in New York and on through the mid-western United States with their album “Apples in Winter”.
The tour promises performances of pure quality; moving and deeply felt Irish traditional music at its best. |
David Power, from County Waterford, toured American performing arts centers with the “Masters of Tradition” for three consecutive years, appeared on Broadway in the Eugene O’Neill play “A Touch of the Poet”, starring Gabriel Byrne, and has performed with poets Dermot Bolger, Seamus Heaney, Kerry Hardie and others.
He has three solo piping recordings: “My Love is in America”, “Cuaichín Ghleann Neifín” and, “The Eighteen Moloney”. He plays with Ciarán Somers in the group Pipers Union and in duet shows with Willie Kelly and with Martin Hayes.

Shocker: Trump got into a fight with the band about money.
National media buzzed in November 1990 when it was revealed that Donald Trump would be starring in the music video for a cover of the 1971 Jean Knight single "Mr. Big Stuff" by Precious Metal, an all-female glam metal band.
The label's press release noted that it was a "featured role" that would net Trump a $25,000 donation by the band to the charity of his choice. Trump's appearance, it crowed, was a "giant act of generosity," and it quoted Precious Metal's lead vocalist, Leslie Knauer, calling Trump "a real gentleman to work with."
"When we were done, he said, 'This is great! Let's take this [song] to number one!'" Knauer told Entertainment Week.
Once the video was done, Trump decided he'd been lowballed. His claim, according to the band, was that he'd been told his appearance was a cameo. But since he appeared throughout the video,
Trump allegedly wanted the band to fork over $250,000 instead.
